Caring for Kids in Foster Care

As followers of Jesus, we want to do what Jesus did, stepping into relationship with the most vulnerable in our city. Bridgetown is partnered with amazing organizations in Portland who are dignifying and uplifting the children and families in our community who have been impacted by foster care. There are plenty of ways you can get involved financially, through volunteering, and through fostering.

Every Child Oregon

Every Child Oregon stands in the gap for vulnerable children and families impacted by foster care, in partnership with the Department of Human Services, and happen to be one of Bridgetown’s longest partnerships as well. From tangibly giving Flash Boxes or Emergency Needs, to actively serving as a respite provider for foster families or appreciating the DHS staff with coffee and ice cream, there’s a way for everyone to get involved.

Foster Parents’ Night Out

Foster Parents’ Night Out is an initiative of Every Child Oregon that provides monthly respite care to DHS foster families. Local sites host FPNO so that foster parents can have a night off, while trained volunteers care for their foster, adopted, and biological children. Bridgetown has been a long time host, and we would love if you would join us in volunteering!

Safe Families for Children

Safe Families for Children works to keep children safe during a family crisis, support and stabilize families with caring and compassionate community, and reunite families. In 2019, a three-year pilot demonstration project began to connect DHS to the SFFC network in order to deflect 10% of kids from entering foster care. Whether you are interested in being a Host Family, Family Coach, Family Friend, or Resource Friend, there is a spot for everyone.
